What is Spotlight?
Spotlight is a database for creatives. We receive most briefs through Spotlight and some casting directors prefer that talent is submitted directly through the platform. For those looking to pursue acting, Spotlight is the best way for young performers to promote themselves to industry professionals. There is an £129.60 annual fee for Spotlight. Your agent needs to send you an invitation link in order to set a profile up.
What does ‘pencilled’ mean?
A pencil is essentially a shortlist. It means that the casting team liked your self tape and want you to pencil the shooting dates so that another client can’t book you should they want to confirm you for the job!
How can I prepare for an audition?
Make sure you are confident and familiar with the material. If given a script or a song, make sure you are off book (have learnt it); but don’t over rehearse! The casting team want to see something instinctive, originality and some of the child’s own personality in the character.
What should I wear in my self-tape?
Nothing too busy or heavily branded! Go for a plain top and jeans. Avoid big jumpers and school uniform. If you’re taping for something sporty, wear something sporty!
Don’t wear conflicting brands (i.e. don’t wear an Adidas top if you’re doing a casting tape for Nike!)
What should I wear to my audition / casting?
Wear something comfortable that you can easily move in. Don’t wear anything too busy or too bright.
If you’re going to a theatre audition where there is a dance call, opt for leggings/joggers and a t-shirt/top and trainers or jazz shoes.
Do not wear crocs, Ugg’s or boots! Don’t wear heavy make-up, wear minimal jewellery, and make sure your hair is off your face.
How do I get myself noticed?
Make sure your profile is up to date. This includes photos, measurements, skills and self-tapes. It’s always good to have any professional work featured on your profile and an ident and monologue.
